Fr. Marian, OFM, dies; served in Streator, Peoria

ST. BERNARD, Ohio — A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, March 28, at St. Clement’s Church for Father Marian Douglas, OFM, who served in Streator and Peoria during a priesthood that spanned 51 years.

Another Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Bishop Alexander K. Sample of Marquette, Mich., on Monday, March 30, at St. Joseph’s & St. Patrick’s Church in Escanaba, Mich. Burial was to take place in Holy Cross Cemetery in Escanaba in the spring.

Father Marian, who had cancer, died on March 22, 2009, at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. He was 81.

In the Diocese of Peoria, he was pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Streator from 1971 to 1978 and again in 1991. While he stepped down from active ministry in 2001, Father Marian continued to assist as he was able. His final posting was to Sacred Heart in Peoria in 2004, and he remained in residence there until he retired to Cincinnati in 2007.
