JOLIET — A funeral Mass was offered Oct. 8 at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home here for Sister Sophie (M. Firmina) Petro, OSF, a native of Streator who taught at the former St. Stephen’s School from 1969 to 1978.

Sister Sophie died at the retirement home on Saturday, Oct. 4, after a long illness. She was 89.

Interment took place Oct. 9 at St. Stephen’s Cemetery in Streator.
