Sr. Maxine, OSF, dies at 96; served in Streator

SPRINGFIELD — A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Sister M. Maxine Frichtl, OSF, a former nurse-anesthetist at St. Mary’s Hospital in Streator, on Aug. 13 at St. Clare of Assisi Chapel at St. Francis Convent in Springfield. Burial followed in Crucifixion Hill Cemetery.

Sister Maxine died on Aug. 10, 2008, at St. Francis Convent, the motherhouse of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis. She was 96.

She served as a nurse-anesthetist at hospitals in Wisconsin and Illinois, including St. Mary’s Hospital in Streator, where she worked from 1962 to 1989.

She returned to the motherhouse in 1989 and had been engaged in a ministry of prayer in recent years.
