ROCK ISLAND — Entries are now being accepted for the Sixth Annual Art of Faith Juried Sacred Art Show and Sale, which will be held Feb. 18-19 in Farrell Hall of St. Pius X Church, 2901 24th St.

The theme is “Contemplating the Holy Face of God.” It was inspired by the Jubilee Year of Mercy, which emphasized that “Jesus Christ is the face of the Father’s mercy,” said Jill Rodts, founder and organizer of Art of Faith.

“I looked for images of the face of Christ and devotion to the holy face of Jesus and realized that when we contemplate his face, the second person in the Holy Trinity, we can relate better to him and enter into a profound encounter of his personal love,” she said.

Citing St. Therese’s devotion to the Holy Face, Rodts painted the saint and the face of Jesus, depicting her prayers as a shower of roses. Holy cards with this image will be given at the show and include information about the Carmelite devotion to the Holy Face.

Families and children will be invited to draw and color their own images of the holy face of Jesus throughout the weekend.

Rodts said images portraying “the truth, beauty, goodness and holiness of the birth, public ministry, passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, as well as any aspects of his humanity in the tradition of the Roman Catholic faith” are guidelines for the show. That might include visual expressions of the face of Jesus in parables of the Gospels, the spiritual or corporal works of mercy, Beatitudes or any of the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church.

Illustrations of the Blessed Mother, scenes of the rosary, biblical scenes and characters and the communion of saints are also encouraged.

Rodts welcomes the work of aspiring artists, ages 13 to 18.

In addition, she is seeking groups and choirs from around the diocese that perform sacred music and would like to offer a 45-minute presentation during the show, which runs from 2 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19.

Artists are asked to submit three to five photos of their art along with a statement about how their work contemplates the holy face of Jesus and faith in God love. These may be sent to jillmr96@gmail.com or Art of Faith, 2502 29th Ave., Rock Island, IL 61201.

Online applications are being accepted through the Art of Faith tab at visionillustration.com.

The deadline for entries is Feb. 8.
